Sun Peaks is charming with architecture to resemble an Italian Alps village but set in British Columbia, Canada, only a 55 minute drive from the airport. Sun Peaks is picturesque with spectacular views, friendly residents, many fine restaurants and shops, and superb ski-in-ski-out accommodations in a popular ski resort with varied terrain and well groomed slopes.
Although you can find summer activities such as band concerts and a farmer's market every Sunday, it is basically a winter paradise not only with alpine and cross country skiing on three different peaks but also with ice skating, snowmobiles, snow shoeing, ice hockey, dog sledding, snow boarding, biking, hiking, boating, canoeing on the lake, and more.
Skiers are definitely in paradise with a run for every ability. Families and other groups can catch the same lift together but then choose a different run down.
Giant slalom race. Held every Friday for a nominal fee, lots of locals enter as well as resort guests. It is amazing that the most competitive group is the over 60s!
Dog Sled Adventures. At well kept kennels, the dogs are very healthy and love to be bonded with and fed by the guests, who also help get the dogs ready. The trail scenery is breathtaking, the guideâs commentary is delightful, and everyone gets a turn at driving the sled.
Kamloops Wildlife Park. This nearby wildlife park has more than 70 different animal species and is a rehabilitation facility for creatures who are all rescue and now have a safe haven in large enclosures that are close to their natural habitats. The animals were either born in captivity, orphaned or handicapped.
Watch the Birds of Prey Show, the animal feedings, visit the family farm, take an eight minute ride on a wildlife express train, and view the Wildlights at Christmas with hundreds of colored lights. For the children, there is also a playground, a water park, and a petting zoo area.
